Artist Statement: The Landscape Series

As I hike through my woods or investigate a new terrain, a fleeting instant seizes my awareness, and the impulse to transform an ephemeral vision into a painting takes hold. In my studio, I work to transform the intangible into an evocative expression that captures the essence of a scene, the unusual shapes of colors, their textures, or the sound of the wind. The world around me dissolves, and I engage in a dialogue with the canvas: a harmonious composition, a symphony of hues, or a juxtaposition of shapes. And I play. I know I am finished when I have achieved my intentions: to make a moment before nature real.
