Context Abstractions

Artist Statement: Context Abstractions

My work emerges from the intersection of memory and perception, where objects themselves become less significant than their emotional resonance. It is not the physical presence of things that compels me, but rather the lingering impressions they leave—traces that invite deeper visual investigation into their inherent mystery.

Through explorations of color, gesture, shape, texture, and movement, I examine my relationship with the world around me. These formal elements serve as both language and inquiry, allowing me to articulate the subtle ways in which the environment shapes consciousness and experience.

My current practice centers on translating emotional responses to place and circumstance into visual form. Rather than documenting literal encounters, I aim to capture the essence of being—the distilled quality of a moment, a feeling, or an idea. The resulting abstractions become a means of understanding: each work is both a response and revelation, mapping the terrain where internal experience meets external reality.

This body of work serves as an organizing framework for exploring what I term evocative anecdotes—visual suggestions that evoke the sensation of inhabiting a particular place and state of mind. By paring down my vision to essential elements, I create space for viewers to encounter their memories and associations, transforming each piece into a catalyst for personal reflection and connection.

Through this process, art becomes a bridge between the private experience of being and the shared language of visual expression, inviting others into the quiet mysteries that shape our daily encounters with the world.
