Artist Statement: Figurative Abstractions
Moments when people reveal themselves unconsciously - a gesture of concentration, an unguarded expression – engage me. The impulse to transform a fleeting observation into a tangible, personal experience compels me to paint and make sense of the experience. I typically memorialize the image with a photograph or sketch, and in my studio, I find a palette of oil paints that resonates with my response. Brought to the canvas, my intuitive responses, using colors, simplified shapes, and gestural brushstrokes, reference a fleeting observation. The abstracted portraits aim to capture the emotional essence of human moments.
